Exploring Thailand: Teen-Friendly Adventures.

Patong Beach

Intro:

Thailand is bursting with colour, flavour and culture but it’s so much more than touristy beaches and backpacker trails. For families traveling with teens, it’s a dream combo of adventure, chill time, wild markets, elephant sanctuaries and “wow, this is cool” experiences.

We spent 3 weeks exploring Thailand from buzzing Bangkok to peaceful Khao Lak with two teens and a tight budget. This itinerary balances city energy, cultural highlights, beach downtime and jungle adventures that teens will actually be excited about.

We started our itinerary by booking flights as soon as they were released 11 months ahead of departure, from Edinburgh to Bangkok return with Qatar Airways, which offered the best price through Skyscanner (£600pp April) We then spent the coming weeks planning our destinations, eventually settling on the below though in hindsight we’d make a few changes if we were to plan again such as adding extra nights in Chiang Mai and Khao Lak and trimming time slightly in Phuket to better balance relaxation.

We mapped out our route and done a ton of research to find hotels that matched exactly what we were looking for in each location we chose centrally located hotels that were in walking distance of restaurants, markets and nightlife, but still tucked away enough to offer peace and quiet at night. In Khao Lak we went for a more laid back vibe and booked a beach front hotel perfect for relaxing at the end of our trip. We used booking for all our accommodation, which was especially handy as I made a few changes and tweaks to our plan over the year.

Internal flights were all booked through Skyscanner again early on in the trip and we went with whatever airline offered the best deal, mainly flying with Thai Airways or AirAsia. We preferred Thai Airways as the flights felt more comfortable and included snacks but AirAsia was a great budget option and one we’d happily fly again if it meant a better price.

Why Teens Will Love It:
Chiang Mai is calm but never boring. It’s all about slow mornings, jungle treks, and hands-on experiences.

Choose a beach town that suits your vibe:

  • Kata/Karon = family friendly more affordable than Patong
